Tell me about the Pokemon Mini system

It looks dead cute and I know where there is a bunch of hardware and games for super-cheap. (I'm not telling where however, yet). I'm going on a trip away with my son soonish, and I figured these could be a laugh for us to take along on the journey.

Any and all info please. Is there a JPN version? What colours are there? Etc, etc.

Well, I don't have many answers to your questions but I'll tell you what I know as I have one. No idea if there is a JP version but the only colour I've ever seen has been blue (with clear bits if my memory is correct). The machine is indeed really cute and the cartridges are just lovely. But the games? Barely worth talking about. I got three games I think (not sure there's even any more than that). I got a thing that called itself pinball (it's not), some puzzle thing and something else I think. All pretty dire.

The system itself is lovely - if you're a collector, it's a nice piece. If you're a gamer (or your son is) I couldn't recommend it.

Edit: Okay, a quick Google search shows I'm wrong about the colour. A yellow one was released and maybe another. This blue one is the one I got and it's all I ever saw out in the wild -

Yes there was a japanese version of the pokemon mini as it came out in japan first.

It was available in green, blue & pink. There were also a few acessories released like pouches & straps but you could only buy them from the pokemon centres.

There were 10 games released for it in japan, most are easy(ish) to find however one of them is very rare (Togepi's adventure) & i still havent found a mint copy yet. The games range from crap (pokemon pinball) to fantastic (Shock tetris)

I have a bit more info on my webpage including box scans

And once you have a copy of Tetris (Europe version), you can sit smug knowing there's only about 4* of us!

        *There are probably many more

I have three Mini handhelds: blue (more of a turquoise, really), lime green and purple, and a grand total of four games! Tetris is the best, but Pokemon Puzzle Collection and Pinball are pretty good, too. You get Pokemon Mini Party (I think) free with the machine.

Don't expect *anything* from the graphics and sound. They're even more rudimentary than the original Game Boy. It's all about the gameplay; and with the limited number of games available, even that is lacking.

It's probably the cutest handheld around, but I can't say I've played with it a huge amount. A bit of a curiosity, really.
