360 freezing (no red lights) - HD On the way out?

Hey folks, I've recently been getting back into TDU but it's crashed randomly a few times just in the middle of a race. When it's crashed the screen has simply frozen with no graphical corruption, nothing on the controller did anything with the only option being to power down the Xbox.

It did this again last night but now I can't get the game to load, it's freezing somewhere randomly around the title screen. My brother said he was having similar problems with PGR3 so I tried a different profile, the XBox froze twice in the dashboard changing profile but when I did manage to load a new one in, TDU proceeded as normal with a new game to let me choose the character.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be? The 360 seems fine loading Live arcade games and downloading new content.

    Thanks,
    John

You connected to live all the time ? I've had this a few times but never bothered about it - occasionally things lock it's part & parcel of having a machine doing so much **** at once I think

TDU streams heavily you had problems with any other games ? Gears Of War maybe ?

Alternatively, try disconnecting the HDD and have a play with TDU - From the profile bit you mention it could be that causing it !

If you think it's bust take it back to shop (under 12 months) and get another.

If it's over 12 months leave it running in a warm/unventilated place till you get 3 red lights then phone MS

I can live with occasional lockups but I can no longer get the game to load at all, it freezes every time on the loading screen. It is connected to Live all the time which may be the problem, I'll try signing out of Live and seeing if it's any better.

Does sound like the start of over-heating issues - no probs until trying to play a game via the disc drive when the GPU gets some more juice put through it.....if unplugging the HD doesn't work then its pretty certain that sooner rather than later you'll get the 3lods

Don't think it's anything to do with overheating as it did it first time I turned it on today. Tried taking it off Live but no difference, kept trying and tryig and eventually it started up fine - since then there's been no problem with it, I've shut it down and loaded up TDU first time twice.

I've been getting a lot of freezing in CoD3, I thought it was just bad programming on the part of the game, but it froze when I was playing Overlord the other day.. same problem??

            Whats TDU?

I got this problem aswell with my last 360, I phoned microsoft and it took a few nationalities of people with thier checklists, just to get them to send me a box (not counting how long i was on hold for!)

In the end i realised it was under 12 months so i took it back to GAME, exchanged it for a new one straight away.

I thought it was the overheating problem aswell, especially that it was lying low down on the floor. I've now got my new 360 up in the fresh air, and have had no probs so far! (Kiss of Death)

I'm up in Inverness where it's not warm at all, the 360 is sitting on a wooden shelf up off the floor beside a window which means it should be keeping cool.

It's strange, after its spurt of not going at all it's been fine since then and I've now pretty much finished. However, I tried booting up Gears of War and it gave me a system error (E68 or something?) with a single red portion. Checking up on it, that does indicate the HD:

"E68: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error. Some also believe this might be caused by a problem with the fans."

Maybe time to look at getting my savegames transferred :S
