I had a look at the manual for the 1200ES and yes it does. It's called 'AV Sync' and can be found under the audio settings menu of the amp.

So I'm looking at the Sony STRDA 5200, the Cambridge Audio 640R-SIL and the (hideous black) Pioneer VSX 1017. Any particular reason that one stands out above the others?

        Thanks in advance.

People seem to have a few HDMI/Amp questions...I'll change the thread title to open to open the subject up a bit more.

You need to listen to them with the speakers that you own/intend to buy and hear which sound you prefer. Audio is largely a preferential thing. I prefer a warm rich sound but others prefer a very clean sound. So whilst I can appreciate that Yamaha make some excellent amps, they are not for me as they don't suit my personal tastes.

Cheers Brats. As they're all the same price I'll see if Richer Sounds will let me buy one then return it and swap for a different one until I get one I'm happiest with then.

7.1 surround decoding and all the usual gubbins
Just as a word of warning, the Sony 1200ES only accepts multichannel PCM through its analogue inputs - NOT through HDMI. I was going to buy this amp myself, mainly for use with the PS3, so I'd need an amp that accepts multichannel audio and video over HDMI. A lot of budget amps will not allow you to do this. The Sony DA3200ES (the next model up in the range) will do it though, as will most amps at the ~?400 range

Have a look at the latest Onkyo range, they can decode the new HD sound formats over 1.3a HDMi as opposed to analogue multi channel and upscale all sources upto 1080p over HDMI if required.
