An OS boxed & bought from a shop - the same as an OEM?

Whats the difference or are they the same?
I ask because I bought XP Pro from Special Reserve a few yrs back & it was fully boxed with all codes etc.
I thought that an OEM was just the free OS u got when u bought a Desktop.
    Am I right?

OEM licenses of Microsoft operating systems can only (legally) be used on the system with which they were purchased. What you have is a FPP (Full packaged product) version, which can be used on any PC, and is transferable.
