    Broken JPN PS3

So yea, my ps3 recently died. Anyone have any idea if or how it would be possible to get this fixed under warranty? Already tried phoning Sony but they said they wouldn't fix it as it's not a PAL model. Also if I can't get it fixed under the warranty can anyone recommend anywhere that fixes ps3's?

if you dont mind having it replaced with a UK model just do the old swap and cashback from any high street store(your 100% within your rights to get your money back for faulty products no matter what bs excuses the staff give)

Careful with that method though. It's deceit and one store I know have informed the police and begun prosecution on the customer.

Nothing much to it. Person bought 360 from store and then returned an import broken 360 saying it was the one he bought earlier - and asked for refund or a replacement, not sure myself. Shop then found that the console was not one bought from store. Customer paid for console with cash, but they had him on CCTV and police found his name and asked store if they would like to prosecute, which they have.

Yikes. It wouldn't be quite as easy to spot out with a PS3 though especially if the next person that gets it only plays PS3 games, with the PS3 being region free and all.

Though if the store inspects the PS3 and sees the serials don't match etc then yeah.. no good.

It sucks that your local Sony won't repair the PS3, but I would think that if you contact the place that sold you the PS3, they can usually accept it and forward the PS3 on for maintenance to the respective Sony division.

Typically you end up paying for postage both ways & the fixing of the console if it doesn't get covered under warranty, but at least there's an option for you.

edit: also, may I ask what happened to your PS3? I'm getting an import PS3 hopefully in the next week or so, and I've heard for the most part that they are pretty rock solid, I'm interested to know how yours "died"...

I think there are places in the UK that do PS3 repairs.

The only one I know off hand is GT Electronics but after reading about the p**s poor service Daragon (& another member I think) got from them I personally wouldn't give them the business.

It's a 20gig ps3 so i couldn't even try and trade it in anyway plus there are a few stickers on it that have some japanese writing anyway.
I'm pretty sure it was the power supply that give up. I turned it on one day and the ps3 made a popping noise and there was a flash of light from it. I turned it on in the middle of a thunder storm being completely foolish so that'll be why. Nothing to worry about if your just buying your ps3 tho.

Yeah, I REALLY wouldn't recommend GT electronics - their service appears sloppy and they generally don't care a damn about customer service. They've completely trashed my 360 premium's box and each time it has to go back to them for further repair attempts (3rd time now) they don't manage to improve the situation an ounce.

Now that they've stopped their refund policy on 360s I have to consider legal action to recover the service charge.

Basically, it's like trying to drive uphill in second gear - you hope you get there in the end, but it's going to take you way too long.

Do not use Gt Electronics. I sent them a PS3 with a minor fault and it came back a right off.
They are techenically inept, will not answer the phone, slow to answer emails and have little concern for the customers. They quote 2- 3 days turnround but nearer a month which may be OK if they could fix things.
They are a company to avoid

If its just the PSU thats knackered then I can repair it for you if you want?

Although they're not cheap, the cheapest I can find one for is £99.99

Check the price of new PS3 from Japan in case it is more practical to buy replacement than repair. Ask your local game and gamestation and indy shop if they know anyone who can repair the console. Just to see what option is available.
