Zen DSL problem + North East (Scarboro)

At my parents house and at their business (both in Scarborough) are 8meg DSL lines from provider 'Zen'.

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks a dramatic decrease in the service quality, constant dropping off of the connection... slow to respond.. etc

Both machines connect to their line thru a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless ADSL router, (seperate locations, similar machines apart from the OS, 1XP 1Vista) which Ive setup to be always connected.

I can't seem to put my finger on the problem at the moment, I've checked both routers, and whenever I have a problem if i hard reset it the line comes back on fine..

It seems to just log off, not at timed intervals or when the line is not in use, mainly when I'm using it and infuriates me !!

    Any suggestions please?
Does anyone else nearby have Zen, experienced problems with Zen?

I'm convinced the speed has dropped over the period I've been with them, but uncertain as to really test this, my router says its 8mg.

    Cheers guys

The figure synced at and actually figure can be pretty different, try the speedtest at thinkbroadband.com or download the test files from ocean.zen.co.uk (or wherever that forwards you to now) a few times to get a better idea.

Does the router lose its sync? Or just the connection to the internet?

Thanks Babs - I tried the thinkbroadband test and came back with 6-6.5 downstream, upstream was 0.5-1 ??

As to your question, im uncertain how to ascertain if its Sync or losing, earlier it wouldn't connect at all, my router displaying it as being in "Training mode" and then "Handshaking" and not connecting.... was the longest i've experienced it offline.

      Any idea's?

I use zen but I am not in your area when I had problem I have phoned the help line they have then tested my line then sent BT out within a couple of days and then sent them back again a couple of days later when the problem was not sorted to my satisfaction.

In my experience they seem to be very keen to keep your custom and have always provided me and the few people I know that are using them a good service whenever we have used the help line.

Training and Handshaking are essentially the same as syncing, an if that's the problem it's more likely to be a problem with the line, the exchange or the filters in your phone sockets.

Your speeds sound fine, on a non-business connection the best upstream you can expect is around 450Kbit.
