    PSP Firmware advice...

    Hi guys,

Need some advice regarding the purchase of a PSP. I want to buy one before i go on holiday in September but unfortunately don't know too much about this firmware stuff.

I'm not really going to use it enough to warrant the homebrew stuff, i just want to watch UMDs and play official games.

This being the case, what is the best firmware??

    Cheers

If you dont care about homebrew, just walk into any shop and buy a psp and you'll be fine. Remember the new 'slim' psp is out in the uk in September.

      Hi Dan,

So if i purchased one from the shop it doesn't matter which firmware it has installed? One version isn't any better than another.

I know the slim version is out in September but it's supposedly out after my hols. It is my understanding that the internals are going to be the same as the current model though? This being the case i am wondering if i might be able to pick a v1 PSP for a cut price, maybe from someone wanting to upgrade to a newer model.

If we're talking official, non-homebrew firmware, then the newest firmware = better, and you can update to the newest firmware no matter what PSP you have.

The only exception to that rule is Wipeout Pure. The download packs go screwy in multiplayer on newer firmware and crash. As far as I know, that's the only thing negatively affected by newer firmware.
