    quad cores

are there any disadvantages to havign a quad core in a gaming pc?

Not really, software just needs to become more multithreaded to take advantage of it, you'd probably notice a difference over a dual core, on well written software.

your more likely gonna see better performance from video editing software etc, but imo its not the right time to go quad, because they heat up more than the duals, which also has the knock on effect of not providing as much oc'ing headroom.

      i'd give it another year.

the new e6850 is an excellent choice, with its 1333mhz fsb out of the box, and 3ghz clock speed(x9 multi) and 4mb L2.

      thats my opinion......

of course if you want bang for buck you can get an e4300/4400/4500 which perform the same apart from the L2 cache being 2mb. for instance i have my e4400 running @ 3.5ghz at 1.4v thats an awsome oc on air, plus the fsb starts low(1400mhz fsb running 3.5 ghz cpu is great tbh) so it doesnt thrash your motherboard northbridge chip. it will thrash the e6850 etc....as i rule of thumb i say that a e4000 series chip will be relatively as quick as a e6000 chip running 200 mhz more.

the only draw back is price really but if your getting a new comp thats fine....but actually buying one to fit in the comp they are quite a price

and by the time you need them the price will have dropped alot
