gamecube/wii on my monitor - is it possible/worth it?

i hope this is the right spot to put this. ive been wondering for a while if this is worth looking into so if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

i have the wii plugged into the tv but there are 7 other people in the house so i dont always have access so i was wondering about running the gamecube on my computer monitor. there are a bunch of things though that im not sure about.

    1. is it even possible? i have yet to find a vga-component adaptor of some description and i dont know if they even exist.

    2. if it is possible is it worth it? i am just about to buy a new monitor, possibly a 22" lcd Acer AL2216WD as it seems to be quite reasonable (though please tell me if its not before i buy it) and im wondering how well it will display the picture.

    3. will my gamecube even work with component cables? i live in australia and as such have an australian cube and the cube component cables never came out here. i can always import easy enough but for some reason i had it in my head that there was a problem with australian gamecubes and component output.

Sorry if my questions display my horrible ignorance but any help is much appreciated. also sorry if theres been another post like this but i couldnt find one in my brief search

To actually get nice image quality, you'll need a Component to VGA transcoder like the VD-Z3, or the forthcoming XCM 1080p VGA box.

Unfortunately, these devices only work with Progressive input, i.e 480p. It's not really worth it on a GC as so many games don't supported, but most Wii games do.

I reckon it'll probably look nicer on a large TV, though.

If your gamecube is a pal one it wouldn't be able to do 480P which VGA will need it to display properly.

Yoiu might well look for a LCD TV which can do PC rather than look foor VGA cable for gamecube for your monitor.

Incorrect. PAL Cubes support component output and progressive mode, just no PAL games were released with progressive scan. If you run NTSC games via Freeloader on it, all is fine, you can have your 480p.

Though in truth if you get US/JPN Cube games, you might as well just get a cheap switched/modded NTSC Cube as well...

If the only solution involves component to VGA and the use of progressive scan, then yes you can't play any PAL games that way.

Check out those LCD TV with PC Input as it will be more useful for you than a VGA monitor. Just have a look round. I got 32 inch HDTV and it got very good output for VGA. You might be able to get one suitable for Gaming / TV and PC need.

That would probably be the way to go but would it still be suitable for use as a monitor? again i know nothing but will it be able to run at a high enough resolution to be decent as a monitor as that is still what it is primarily for.

also if a game doesnt run in progressive scan does that mean it cant be displayed at all through component cables or that there just wont be any difference from composite?
