annoying xbox dash problem

for some reason my xbox locks up when i goto the original dashboard - annoying to say the least. i got soooooooo pissed off with it that i reformated my xbox and went back to the original Live dash - everything working totally great - so i then reinstalled evox - and once again it locked up when i went back to the original dash

now it goes back to the dash before locking (i renamed the dash etc etc)

any help would be appreciated

are you sure Evo-x isn't running a bust version of the ms dashboard instead of your working one? the ms dash really shouldn't care what it's called or what else is on the hard drive.

maybe its hunting for missing audio files or something like that (you know, the ambient stuff it plays)?

maybe there is a game save or ripped audio cd it really doesn't like?

best way to sort it out would be trial and error, get the dash working again and re-add bits untill it breaks. then you'll know what broke it,

i did a factory format via evox bootdisk - dash worked perfectly. then added evox again - dash broke

i am getting to the stage were i am thinking of just going back to original dash for a while

Why do you wanna use the original dash anyway?
It's....er, gash. I have probs with EvoX locking up.
And sometimes XBMP locks up when it's loading up.
And sometimes Stepmania crashes.
And sometimes XSnes9x won't do a proper save
And sometimes I think xbox is kinda crap

Do you mean when you choose the original dash option in EvoX? I had the locking up problem, which was a real pain in the arse because I wanted to transfer some saves to a memory card - can you do that without the original dash? Anyway, when I have a disc in the drive it locks. When I don't it works fine. I have no idea why this is. It doesn't matter what disc - even if I want to rip an audio cd it locks, so I just go into the MS dash, then bung the disc in and it works.

What BIOS are you using on your chip? & what version of EVO-X?

firsty - needed to go to dash to change something in my settings (enable dts sound etc)

Barrym - will try it with no disc. whats annoying is that sometimes it will let me move to settings and then lock and other times it will lock immediately

hmm, it could be a mis match of dashboard/kernel/xbox/bios/evo-x versions. For example I know there are well documented problems between media player 2.4 and executor 4977 that causes lockups, this might be your problem, or it might not be.

Is your chip switchable? If so does the MS dash work fine with the chip off?

its an enigmah final so not switchable

when i reformated my xbox to factory spec the dash worked perfectly - it was just when i reinstalled evox that it ****ed up again

how are you installing evo-x? have you tried a different version? I'm sure its fixable. If the dash runs when the mod chip is active, then it should be possible to get it playing nice with evo-x too
