    PS3 - non HD TV?

Can anyone tell me if when playing the PAL versions of almost every game on PS3, if it is forced widescreen and 50hz, If so does this really effect the games and the whole experience?

I know alot of you will probably say 'just get a HD tv!!!'' But i kinda just wanted to know what it's like playing all PS3 games in non HD? Acceptable and slower but it's allright, or it's so bad you may aswell avoid buying a PS3 untill i have a HD tv, (Which will be ages for me)

What with MGS4 and GT5 on the horizon, i'm indeed excited about picking a PS3 up.

    Cheers,
    Malc

I assume it's at least forced 50Hz, because the PAL PS3 cannot output 480i/p, it does 576i/p instead.

Get a US or Japanese one if you want 60Hz at non-HD.

If i was to pick up a US PS3, and then purchase a UK copy of say, Virtua Fighter 5, would the US PS3 be able to run it at 60hz aswell?

Yes. Some PAL games work, others don't. I know the following do:

Fight Night & Virtua Fighter 5

        Oblivion & COD3 don't work though.

Ok, so back to my original question:

Can anyone tell me what it's like playing All the PAL games on a PAL PS3? I've been told all games run with borders and 50hz, if so how bad does it make the game to look and play?

Ive got a pal ps3 and run it with a ps2 RGB cable, has a very crisp picture, plan to get a HD telly probably near xmas. Anyway I have motorstorm and resistance, also used to have VF5 and all of those run in 60 hz

Are you sure it's 60Hz? Because the PAL PS3 actually will not output 480i/p, only 576i/p. Vice versa for NTSC machines.

Is there any boarders on the PAL PS3 games?

Also even if the games arent running in 60hz, does it still look good?

My mistake, appears that Im running through 576i, (not really up on what the different resolutions amount to)

it doesnt have any borders on any of the games I've played so far and looks very good, so I had presumed it was running 60hz. So does this mean when I get HD the games will be running a bit faster?

I would have thought that you'll be getting the full 60hz,

Are you running your PS3 through a monitor or just an ordinary tv/widescreen? do you reccommend that the picture quality for normal tv's is worth me getting a PS3 now?

EDIT: i take it the games your playing are all PAL aswell?

576i/p are both 50Hz standard, they're PAL basically. So yeah, they'd be running faster in HD resolutions as all games run in 60Hz at HD resolutions, regardless of region game or console.

(It essentially means the PS3 is only truely region free if you play at HD resolutions)

So then, just to end my list of questions:

I wont have boarders on my non HD/widescreen tv?

and it will run at 50hz? (Hopefully that won't make the games unbelieveably bad looking)

Crap, I was thinking about picking up a PS3 before getting an HD screen next year, but this is putting me off. There really are some mongs at Sony these-days.
