    August 2007: 32" LCD for ?833

    Hi,

I was thinking about an LCD monitor, but have decided to convert the study into a "Games" and "Play" room.

I'm looking for a 32" LCD and my maxium budget is kr10,000 (?833) I would like to pay kr7000 (?583) if at all possible, as I want the new 360 with quiet fans and HDMI.

The set will be used for:

    - SD TV via analog cable
    - 360 via Component or VGA (Later HDMI)
    - PS3 via HDMI
    - Gamecube via RGB Scart
    - PC (7800GT) via DVI/VGA

At this price I am limited to a 720P set, but that's fine. My wishlist:

    Min 2 HDMI
    Really good VGA
    Best blacks possible
HDCP enabled HDMI that works with DVI converter
Reasonable sound, so I can watch Kids TV etc without 5.1 setup.
Tough screen, no issues with kids fingerprints and burn in. (I have a pio plasma, so am very careful, and don't want that stress in the kids room)

I have the following sets on my radar:

    Samsung LE32 R88BDX kr10,000
    LG 32LC42 kr8495
    LG 32LC51 kr6995
    Logik 32LW417E kr5995

    !!Important!!

This is the kids room, and also the place I can relax and play games when the Plasma is occupied. I am interested first and foremost in the performance of this as a games screen. The quality of SD broadcast is a very minor issue on this TV. I don't care about the make or the style. Currently I have a **** Dell 19Inch LCD and I am fed up with poor colours and awful effects when fast action on the screen.

I really do want to do this as cheaply as possible, but am open to suggestions if the difference really is worth it for a 10K set.

Really appreciate any help, & I am also prepared to wait until Sept if there are some big changes about to happen.

    C_S.

But 32inch is the max size for the room, so I think 720p should be cool.

Yeah, at 32" you won't notice the difference unless you sit against the screen and you'll hopefully get a better scaler for your money if you go for 720p.

I know you did loads of research on TV's recently didn't you?

I am a sucker for technology and spending too much!

At the top of the scale, kr10160, is one from Sony:

              BRAVIA KDL-32D3000

I wonder if I am better saving for 2 months more, and going for that?

Seems good spec and I like the idea of 3 HDMI!

              It's a minefield in 32" and I need help.

ah it has 100HZ processing, it may well be worth waiting for that.

                  Cheers EvilB.

I ordered a Samsung, and then cancelled,

I'll wait for the Sony in Sept then.

Good things come to those to wait!

In the meantime It will have to be the AE700 or the crappy Dell LCD, as time on the Plasma is at a premium these days!

Still, always good to save, innit.

Just make sure that you let the reviews roll in first, 100Hz is a blessing when it works properly, but is a horrible when done wrong.

I'm just having a flick through the manual, seems everything is offable, so worst case scenario you can turn off the motion settings.

Thanks EB! Really appreciate the advice.

Just had a chat with Mrs C_S and I have been given a gree light to use funds on this TV.

                          One thing concerns me.

I really don't care about SD pictures. The Pioneer plasma does a great job of that in the lounge.

This TV is just for PS3/360 & upscaled kids DVD's. It won't even be connected to a TV signal.

Am I paying through the nose for a LCD that is great for "SD" stuff, but no better for gaming than a ?600 Samsung?

My 32" Bravia was £750 (think it's down to about £650 in the UK now) fits all your requirements, and the picture is absolutely stonking, Dreamcast looks lovely on it in VGA and it lets you keep the OAR instead of forcing Widescreen on you for 4:3 content. First time I've seen SD content look better than on a CRT (though obviously it's all thanks to the DCs amazing VGA output)

Wii looks decent as well though, certainly no where near the sort of mess you got with the older Samsung sets. So as much as I dislike Sony right now, I can't do anything but recommend the current Bravia range. The Sony definitely doesn't mess up component and VGA inputs like some Samsung and LG sets did either and the colour levels are fantastic.

                              Thanks mike.

                              I can't get the Sony for less than kr12,000 here, that's ?1000

I just want a panel that will be OK for 360 & PS3, but am lost as to what the best "Budget" screen is @ native 720p.
