    Quick Ram Question

I'm looking at getting a new AM2 Processor and Motherboard combo but can't afford some new RAM at the time being so was wondering if I can put standard DDR Ram into DDR2 slots?

    Hope that makes sense cheers.

    No you can't I'm afraid.

Damn thanks looks like I'll have to wait a little longer then.

You can get mother boards that have 2xDDR slots and 2xDDR2 slots, and then you could use your old memory until you could afford new DDR2.

(You can't use both slot types together however)

I suspect you'd be better off just waiting and getting a better overall motherboard though. Besides, do you really want your new processor to be running crippled with slower RAM? Just save your money till you can go all the way, imo.

Got my old DS on sale on ebay which should give me enough to afford two sticks of http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/327479...m/Product.html if thats as good a deal as it sounds.

Pretty sure that's not possible with an AM2 setup though... the memory controller is on the CPU itself, and only supports DDR2. Same reason 939 chips only support DDR.

The play.com price is a little meh, you can find dual channel kits rated at a faster speed for less elsewhere. I spotted this on a site I use every so often for example:

This website is for sale! eclipsecomputers.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, eclipsecomputers.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

Sure, you'd have to pay postage, but it'd still work out a better deal. Look around.
