D0 wire placement on an Xapter.

How important is this? What exactly does it do?

This xbox im working on is unlike others i have done in that the relevant hole is virtually closed, and doesn't have the little gold outline around it.

for the Do wire on my box i used a solid but thin wire brush and scraped away on the pcb board slightly to make the do point slightly bigger to make the solder job go alot easier. might be worth a consideration. sorry i couldn't help on the what it does question tho :/ i did know exactly what it did when i modded mine but that was a fair few years ago now and cant remember for the life of me

The D0 point (I think from memory) works by having a grnd signal sent to it, it forces the box to boot from the LPC port (as debug units do), wheras if theres no grnd signsl, the box boots normally...

      Here's a linky on prepping your D0:

Personally prefer applying a bit of flux with a fluxpen, dabbing a small amount of solder on it, and applying yer pre tinned wire - hope this helps....

        Thanks fellas.

So Danny, if i don't apply the wire, the chip will not boot?

Yep! Seem to remember that it'll sometimes make the box frag (not irreprably tho') ie turn on-off-on-off until you remove the chip.....
When you've popped the D0 point on, tape that bad-boy down with leccy tape - if it pops off, your chipless!

Went out and bought a soldering iron, and attached the D0 wire, now all i'm getting is this screen. (attached)

Could it be a bad solder on my part of the D0? So the machine thinks it's not attached?

Just a quick question - did you attach the D0 wire to the correct D0 point - it differs on xbox revisions.....
Looks like the chip is being recognised as you've got the Flashbios screen up there.....
Seems that the error bootidereaddata means theres no Hard Drive/ DVD-Rom drive detected - either theres a fault with the cables/the jumper of the HD isn't set to CS, or theres corrupt data on the HD.....

                Hi Danny

Attached the hd and dvd drive, and it worked.

Odd as all the other ones i have done show the flashing screen without the hd and dvd connected.

All is good now, thanks for your help mate.
