    JP Wii or US Wii?

    Hi

Just quite recently sold my PAL UK Wii, with the release dates being so poor, and my wanting to generate some cash.

I bought a PAL PS3, which I am very happy with, but I'm now considering whether to invest in another Wii.

I don't want a PAL machine, though I'm deliverating over whether to get a US or JP version.
The JP version costs just £147 from YesAsia, while the US version is about £210. Thats quite a big saving in my eyes. I've always had a liking for JP consoles and the games, but I dont want that to necessarily to sway my purchase if its not the best choice.
Im wondering which region is currently being and most likely to continue to be favoured by Nintendo, regarding release dates.
Also what do other people think, which region is the best to go with the Wii and why?

Depends on your tolerance of the language barrier really, myself personally i went for a US Wii after having PAL.

    Better release dates
    All VC games in 60htz
    Cheaper games
    All games in english

plus the fact that IF VC stuff like Final fantasy 3\6 chrono trigger super mario RPG do get released, the likelyhood of a PAL release is slim due to nintendo sticking rigidly to their exactly as you remember them PAL VC stance.

    I'd go US myself

my original plan was to get just a japanese wii, but that fell through when they werent as cheap as they should have been at launch. so i ended up with an american one, and i'm quite glad i did.
a bunch of the games i was wanting turned out to be nothing special, and although i havent especially been looking, theres been nothing brought to my attention that is amazingly good and japanese only.
release dates in the usa are around as good as japan, and i just dont have the tolerance for messing around figuring out menus and the like these days.

i'm sure there will eventually be something which has zero chance of western release and will tempt me to pick up a second wii, but as of now i'm very happy with my american one. theres at least 6 games i want on it by the end of the year.... 3 of which i dont think even have pal release dates yet.

Right now, US. I don't think that there are enough japanese-only titles that would made worth buying a JPN Wii, while the US certainly has a faster and better release schedule than Europe. And with the Euro and the Pound stronger than US/CDN dollars a game with shipping costs ends up in being cheaper than a PAL one.

sounds like the US one is looking the best option at the moment! where is the cheapest place inc shipping I could get one of these?

I bought mine from DVD Box Office a few weeks ago, and the machine itself plus shipping came to ?170. I also had to pay ?19 import VAT because they put the full value on the outside of the box, though on the bright side they ship by DHL who delievered the machine without three days and only charged me ?1-something for customs admin (by comparison, Royal Mail's admin charge is ?8)

I'm really glad I did TBH, as being able to play all your games in English more than makes up for missing the odd one or two JPN exclusives IMHO. If there's something JPN-only that you really badly wanted you could always look into one of the various mods available.

BTW - If you do happen to buy through DVD Box Office, click the option to pay in US dollars rather than Canadian dollars, and you'll save about ?20

Yeah, personally i'd go for the US version of the system, not unless your Japanese is very good. The Wii is a simple machine and you can bet there will be some sort of freeloader disc out in due time to play imported titles.

I don't know how you work that out.

                  Stroller.

What are the failure rates of the Wii? Many problems?

What are DVDBO like for returns?

We did track reliability on other forum, and from over 300 Wiis, only one had broken. Of course, this is so low sampling that you can't really draw any conclusions from it, but it is better than nothing. But if something is going to break on your Wii, it is going to be GPU that overheats during Wiiconnect24.

Nintendo hardware is pretty much bulletproof. I'd say go for it.

Erm. Just had a reported post for this thread from "trucus". Not the preferred use of reported post, but language seems a barrier so...

"please, I have a US Wii, but I will go to Spain for live, Can I use this Wii Console, with games from Spain????"

Nope, you will have to buy games from VG+ (or similar) and get them shipped to you. Unless you get it chipped.
