    US Wii Online

Can someone please confirm whether or not there are any problems playing on the net with a US Wii in Europe? I read reports that (Mario Strikers) would be unplayable online if you didnt have a console and game for your own region. Is this true or just scare tactics from ninty to stop importers?

I don't know about Mario Strikers, but I think that a number of forum dwellers can testify that there's no problem connecting an US Wii to the internet here in Europe, and I'm among those. The only problem so far is that it won't accept your credit card for direct shopping for VC games, but there's a workaround even for that - the Wii FAQ should be still online and describing what needs to be done.

Thanks for the reply but I already know that as I have already downloaded a load of stuff from the US VC. I mean actually playing online games on the system, at the moment its just Mario Strikers and Pokemon but there a lot of good online games coming out in the future and I might need to get a PAL machine. So if anyone has played Mario Strikers or Pokemon can they just confirm if it works ok in Europe from a US machine

Mario strikers is region locked. Even though the manual states that you can still play people form other regions on your friends list it does not accept friend codes from a different region. Hopefully its not a sign of things to come from Nintendo but it is making me contemplate trading my US wii for a PAL one.

Havent tried playing against US randoms but with the speed of the game Im sure it wouldnt be good. Technically it works, you can conenct to the WFC.

Hmm, well most of the people I would be playing with have US consoles so the region lockout on friendlists isnt a huge problem. If its **** to play online though thats a different matter. Might have to get 2 Wiis by the look of it.

Also theres no way I would consider trading my US Wii for a PAL one as I would still play all of my offline games on the US machine months ahead of PAL, plus of course the better VC games and versions, which is one of the main reasons for picking up the machine.
