    iChat (Mac OS X)

Does it actually work in terms of voice chat ?

I've been trying to voice chat with someone's AIM account because we can't log into Skype. Yet this time, and previous occasions, voice chats never connect. Even though I've followed Apple's instructions on their website.

I'm using the most up-to-date version of Tiger, and my partner's on a PC with Windows XP.

Is your router or the built in firewall preventing you from connecting?

Followed the "Ports to open for Mac OS X firewall" bit to the letter, it was easy to follow, but no success there. My NetGear router might need it's settings changed, but I've no idea how, to be honest.

Ok if your Netgear is like mine here is what you should do to forward the iChat ports.

Go to www.routerlogin.net This should prompt you to login to your router config menu. If you havent set a password then i think the username is Admin and password can be left blank.

From there all you have to do is go to port forwarding and then click "Add Custom Service". Then all you have to do is add the ports that you added in the Mac firewall and then add your server IP address for the machine you are on. If you dont know that ip you can find it under attached devices in the Netgear menu.

        Hopefully that kinda makes sense.

There's nothing called 'Add Custom Service', the nearest is 'Firewall Rules', but I don't understand what I'm looking at when asked to add services.
