Can anyone tell me whether the game in this boxset is the same as the stand alone version (i.e. same cover, spine card etc..)?

I guess you must have been lucky. I have read several reports of people receiving water-damaged copies. Probably the reason they are able to sell them so cheaply - they bought a job lot of damage clearance goods.

Lik Sang sent me 2 copies of the Sonic 2 birthday pack, they were both in absolute perfect condition. Perhaps your mailman swam the river fighting grumpy bass.The cheap lik-sang ones seem to be the result of some warehouse damage. Their packs are all water-damaged.

I bought Burnout 2 on GC in New York on a pouring wet day.
The cover has some nasty "water damage". Just thought I'd share.
Good thing it didn't tear when I inched it out and held the hairdryer at it
