I got my Sky HD installed just over a month ago. It cost me ?150 for the box, no installation fee and half price subs for 12 months.
It was a deal that I found over on AV Forums in the Sky threads so it may be worth searching around there if anyone is after a cheap deal and how to get it.

This is the thread that should be of interest. Not sure if the offer still stands but its worth ringing Sky (Number to call is on the thread somewhere)

does the SKY HD absolutely require a HDCP compliant HDMI slot?

i have a plasma monitor from 3 years ago which has component and vga but not HDMI...

I got SkyHD free with my Sony X end of last year with free installation (it was cashback deal with Sony you paid half then got it back). I dunno if Sony centres are still doing it or not though?

My parents had issues with Sky 3months before that. We have been with them for 15yrs always had near enough the top package till last year. I had it in my name for years (as I got it when I started to get ill many years ago) till we moved back to this area then parents got it for digital (as I had analog) it died and they wanted us to pay a fortune for a new one. We said no, tried the long standing loyalty card and they where not intrested so they cancelled the whole thing. Within 6 weeks they had phoned back, given them a free upgrade to a brand new Sky+ box and 6months sub half price, basically it pays to leave em as loyalty doesnt seem to count for nowt with them.

Im not that impressed with SkyHD though and if it wasnt for going halfs with parents on the subs every month I would cancel it. I watch practically nothing on SkyHD its more used for a recording device and then for the main terresiteral channels. Movies can be ok but they get repeated alot and the quality is nowhere near as nice as blueray/HDDVD for me. I wanted it for BBCHD and documentary channels but even they get repeated a heck of a lot. Really peed of with skys own equivelant of Sky 1 as even though it says its a hd channel it aint you get maybe 2-3hours on it rest in normal def. Id say the sports channel is the best for it for HD and Im not a huge footy fan

Yeah, it's even worse when it's not the footie season, as there's nowt on the other channels either as the TV season doesn't really start until the same time as the footie one!

Quidco are giving you £110 cashback if you sign up as a new customer online, it was only £50 when I signed up last year - typical!
