Found it: gonna try tonight, as my other chip is a blue one (only tested yesterday with a green HongKong model, the don't carry a signal wire!)

OK, I've read up on racketboy's and the segaxtreme forum: you'll have to connect the signal wire to pin 71 of the largest Sanyo IC underneath the CD drive and set the modchip's jumper to 0019. I now am the second guy who successfully modded his Sanyo Saturn!!! Gonna make a guide for this one though, it wasn't that difficult at all, just a lot of eliminating other factors... Now on to a 64 pin IC mod.

Erm, you're mistaking the 64 pin IC version with the 20 pin ribbon cable, mate

64 pin IC is available in 20 AND 21 pin ribbon version:there's a model 1 version (cosmetics of the first version) that has the insides of a model 2.
There's a 25% chance to have a model 2 which is actually a model 1 onthe inside though. (telling by looks is a pretty safe assumption, but it's a hit and miss affair)

Well I haven't done any Saturns for a while so my memory is a bit rusty.

You really modded a Sanyo Saturn?

All the ones I tried were PAL, I followed stuff like the link you posted and it never worked hahaha I hate those Sanyo Saturns.

Next time I get one now I know what to try thanks!

Yeah, someone stated to remove the trap.... (it seems there are also Sanyo models without the trap?)...didn't work for me though.

Make sure to connect the signal wire from A to pin 71 on the largest Sanyo chip underneath first, otherwise it keeps displaying 'checking disk' without spinning. (not pin 7 as some say, count the numbered pins anti-clockwise).

-When removed, the drive spins for a short while, but no check.
-When only removing the voltage from the trap, the drive doesn't spin at all.
-When keeping the trap with the voltage attached, it spins and tries to check but comes short.
-When setting the jumper to 0019, it spins and checks the disc

The A to B bridge DOES NOT work on JAP Sanyo consoles.

Also, I accidentally pulled out the 5V connection to the trap (out of the connector), I stripped it again and inserted back into the green connector plug and added some solder.

Also resoldered the other end of the 5V of the trap to the drive board, after doing this the connection was a lot better and worked like a charm!! Coincidence?

Gonna install the region switch to do some extensive checking and making sure PAL games work too. Anything I threw at it (on CD-R atm) worked, but sometimes intro movies etc have a glitch.

So that method works? On your console at least?

Yep, on my console it did. I also installed the region switch and the Hz switch yesterday, all works now, 50 Hz also! When I tested last time on my JAP console, I connected to the LCD monitor, seems that it doesn't like the NTSC 50 Hz signal, when I connected yesterday to the ol' telly, it worked flawles, even through cinch... go figure...?

It's stated on some fora that sometimes the A+B bridge works on US/PAL Sanyo units, but they also say that it's not tested extensively. Just make the bridge to pin 71, it's a huge difference, and try the other jumper on the modchip.
Pretty sure it'll work after that.

I'll note the data on the back of the Saturn later on, it might come in handy I guess...

                  Here's the info:

                  Model N° HST3220
                  Serial N° 167033488
                  Made in China
                  WK 670-8063L
(it also reads 'SEGA' above the voltage inside the large rectangle, pretty sure mine reads something different)

I just remembered that I connected the 5V wire to the first pin instead of the second, I'll just open it up and rewire the cable to the second 5V (it sends different Ampère AFAIK), this gives me the chance to make pictures for a guide
