Ready to buy HDTV, advice needed

I'm just about ready to buy an HDTV and am basically looking for the best and cheapest TV for my budget and needs.

It's for a bedroom so doesn't need to be any bigger than 23" or so, but no smaller than 20". As for use, it'll be 70% gaming/30% DVD/Blu Ray I'd say (built in Freeview is definitely not a necessity since I watch very, very little TV).

Needs to have composite/component, HDMI and at least one scart socket.

As my gaming encompasses everything from current PS3/360/Wii to PS2, Dreamcast, PSX, Saturn etc, I'd like something that doesn't make non-HD gaming look crap. Same goes for watching regular DVDs too.

My budget is ?300-?350. I've spotted a couple of Samsungs for this price which seem to have everything I need but if anyone knows specific models and where the best places online to buy are I would really appreciate it.

I am very fond of the Samsung LE26R81:



My TV is the 26" version, I don't know if there are smaller versions around. But its design is very slim and hardly takes space. HD screen is easy on the eyes too, even from close. It has 2x HDMI, Component, VGA, 2x SCART, S-VHS.. It also has this Game Mode which some people prefer.

HD-DVD add-on shows a great picture too. Absolutely no ghosting and jaggies visible.

Retro, well, to me its acceptable. PSX and Saturn are not all that bad. The TV isn't gigantic, which is its saving grace for lo res textures.


I paid about 600 euro's for it, which should be about 400 pounds?

The usual 26" LG, Toshiba and Samsung should be selling somewhere between £350-400 (or a little over). I'd recommend saving a bit more and go with a set that's had plenty of feedback than take a chance with a television you might not have heard of.

Can anyone recomend the LG LCD's.

Argos are doing a 37" iirc for approx £600, very tempting but I dont want to commit if the picture is crap....?
