    Japanese PSTwo DVD mode problem

I have a Ceramic White PSTwo console with a Matrix chip in it and when I play NTSC dvd's on it with component video, I don't have any image on the screen. It works fine with SCART RGB though (the settings in the system menu are set correctly).
I'm not sure if this was always a problem or arised after the chip was installed, but a friend of mine who has the same PSTwo as me (and same mod chip) has the same problem.

    Anyone knows what's going on?

    Edit: nevermind

I had this problem with Matrix Infinity, IIRC.

You need to turn off the green screen fix in the chips bios menu. If it's the same as mine, you get to the bios by holding X and triangle when turning the machine on. You will need to be connected by composite or RGB to see the menu though...

Huh? I thought I replied, but it's not there.
        Oh well, let's try again.

Component video (we're talking YPbPr here right?) works fine in videogame mode, just not in dvd-mode. And in dvd-mode RGB works fine and component results in no video, only audio.
So I have no trouble getting in the Matrix menu, but you think the screen fix could be the problem? (with the knowledge that playing dvd's in RGB works fine)

Absolutely. I had the same problems and this was the solution.

The PS2 puts video out for DVD in only YPbPr, resulting in the green screen on an unmodified PS2 through RGB scart. The chip fixes this problem, making DVDs appear only in RGB. Turn the fix off and *hopefully* the PS2 will output in YPbPr and you will have picture.

The green screen was designed to stop people copying DVDs onto VHS with RGB quality video.

As I stated before, on my PS2 you cannot view the BIOS menu through component - you will need to connect your PS2 via RGB or the crappy composite cable.

This applies to NTSC PSTwo's only? I can't imagine EU models only outputting YPbPr since SCART was connection #1...

But component works fine for you in game-mode right? How does your PS2 boot then? Blue screen and then all of a sudden intro of the videogame??? (can't imagine that)

The green screen effected all PS2s AFAIK - certainly Europe (I've owned 2 PAL PS2s that both did it).

I only get the BIOS menu if I hold down the relevant buttons at startup. I have my PS2 connected to my TV via component and can watch films or play DVD's to my heart's content.

Seriously - just try turning off your green screen fix when you get home.

I wish I could, but my tv is in repair. But I'll ask my friend to test.
But I've got two other PS2's (1 silver PS2, 1 black PSTwo) and I have played dvd's in RGB on them which worked fine (though I should have to check on how the settings are on them).

                EDIT:
Standard with all my matrix PS2's 'PS2 screen fix' is set to color. But turning it off shows a good picture too for me in dvd-mode (that's my silver old model PS2).
