Looks / sounds to me that you do need to get a 1.3 specific cable. Either way they're cheap as chip on good old fleabay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1M-HDMI-cable-...QQcmdZViewItem

There may also be some helpful info here http://www.hdmi.com/ if you're still unsure .

Yeah, that's the conclusion I'd come to, but it's so damn hard to get a simple yes/no on this one.

I'll try Maplins anyway to see if they have 1.3 compliant cabling. Because otherwise I'll have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest to complete the setup, and I don't... do... waiting!

m8 you just need any HDMI cable you can use the PS3 one. Their was some what came out with the advent of HDMI what couldnt cope with 1080p (created sparkles etc..) but you can get a £4 gold plated one of ebay what will work perfectly, at the worst just look for one that says 1080p compliant. I bought 2 from a bloke off ebay when I got mine (for passthru) absolutly perfect. And you just need a HDMI cable for PS3 as you pass that into the Onkyo as it covers both audio and picture (and then of course you need an extra one to carry the signal from the amp/reciever to the telly). Places play on people what arent clued up on these things as they make loads of dosh off cabling (more than the recievers etc..)

Edit I got 2 from this bloke arrived next day, lovely fit and descent quality (I use 1080p with a Sony X no problem)

All sorted, but thanks anyway dude. Picked a couple up from Maplins on the way home - I needed the extra length anyway because PS3 > amp > TV was longer than just PS3 > TV, which I had previously.

Run through the automatic setup last night but I need to tweak it a little, my rears are too prominent and the centre a little too quiet. Also going to bi-amp my fronts, if I can work out which of the terminals on the speakers are high and which are low, you'd think they'd label them wouldn't you?

I'm positive it tells you in the manual (or it least it does for my 705) which are high and which are low.

I have exactly the same thing with the centre being too quiet and the rears too prominent mind, think it must be a quirk of the audessy thing.

Aye m8, the auto setup can be abit off. Id do it 3 times with the mic and then alter for your own enjoyment. It does seem to get the measurment spot on for distance but I personally found the db readings way off. I had my front left and rights either -7 or -9 from my centre on one reading and I started watching 24 thinking hmm Im sure their was more background music hehe. Only when I went and read the manual again and checked I reliased how bad it was. Mine after 2days testing I did manually in the end and only have front left -1 and rear centres +2 others are the same (you might want to bump all of them up as well as default the amp is quiet on 0db).

My new bi-amps I use the bottom two if its any help for complete (with the bracket as I dont have any space as running 7 speakers).

Does sound fantastic on games in 7.1 tried Heavenly Sword for first time last night and it was lovely. Gaiden sounds like a different game in 7.1 as well (did 9 levels on old receiver before i switched)

I'm not sure if I asked you this before Dazzy, but how far apart are your rears and your surround rears? Any chance of a photo?

I'm tempted to get a couple more speakers but I don't think they're be far enough apart.

Oddly enough, the Onkyo amp manual doesn't tell me what terminals are what on my 5 year old Mordaunt Short speakers.

You can individually adjust the speaker outputs. Also, don't forget to switch on the HDMI monitor, makes setting it all up *so* much easier.

Ah, I see. Well on my MS speakers the top ones are for the tweeters and the bottom ones are for the woofers.

                    I think.

Oddly enough, I had already done that.

I tweaked the settings before I went to bed last night so didn't have a real chance to test them. I did however get Mrs 45 banging on the floor telling me to turn it down at various points throughout the evening.

"I'm just getting the levels right dear!" *carries on playing Heavenly Sword*

My sourroud rears are behind either side of my ears m8 probably 2half feet either side (its whatever size a hospital bed is either side where the metal frame is lol) and my left and right back are about 5ft-6ft away each side of the bed (just behind my head but not at the wall facing across on floorstands). So between 2 theirs maybe only about 4ft but it works tremendously well on 7.1 stuff. I bought a set of speakers for rear as extra as at the worst it could replace the smaller ones I had and just stick to 5.1 but im glad I took the gamble now as had them as 7.1 since. Some films work well in EX some dont so dont expect everything to sound better though but if you use PS3 for games in my eyes its a must m8.

I cant do pics m8 as everything packed up, Im on respite care on Saturday to give my parents a break so cant do any for abit now (going to take my Wii with me hehe).
