    MVS experts, panic over!

    Hi guys,

I am still waiting on my consolized 1 slot to arrive and whilst doing so I have been waiting I have started to do the kind of research and reading that I should have done in the first place.

I have got two MVS carts sitting here with me waiting to be played, KOF 2003 and Rage of the Dragons. Now the reading I just got round to doing suggests that certain 1 slot boards will have trouble running these and possible others (matrimelee). What I can't seem to get a clear picture of is exactly which 1 slot board(s) struggle and if ever there was a solution. The posts I have read on neo-geo.com are from 2005/6.

I guess I shouldn't be so impulsive in buying something before researching it properly but I didn't think that compatibility would have been an issue with MVS system outside of putting in the unibios to unlock AES features etc.

The board I am getting is an MV1-B with the 2.3 Unibios installed.

Any information would be gratefully received.

It's the MV-1FZ that has the trouble IIRC. You can do a fix on the ROTD cart by closing a jumper, that will stop the resetting. Unibios may cure the trouble, but I'm not sure right this minute. I'll check for you.
Both ROTD and KOF03 are terrible anyway, you'd do well to sell them on and get some good games.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

With regards to the fighters, what's the advantage of getting an MVS system over a Dreamcast?

      (Sorry to hijack)

LoL JOe - talk about trying to kill someones games before they have even played them let alone him already feeling ill.

You can get more games, and they're the originals, not ports.

But are they better/worth the ag? Good ports mind you, wouldn't you say?

              Thanks J0e that's more reassuring.

I've not played ROTD or KOF2003 before again lack of research on my part , I'll give them a playtest and move them on if needs be.

              Thanks again.

The ports are decent enough I suppose, providing you are not a hardcore player. I always steered clear and went with the MVS carts myself. An MVS system is not worth the ag if you already have access to the ports though. The ports have extras you won;t find on an MVS cart most of the time too.

I like most of the Saturn and Dreamcast SNK fighters ports, in fact these are the reason that I had the sudden urge to move to MVS. I wanted the games as close to the original arcade experience as possible.

I've no room for a cab.

Watch out for some of the MV1B's - theyve got a bios thats geared towards Irritating Maze - some later games have troubs with them as well. The unibios sorts out 99% of the issues that most of the troublesome 1 slots have with later games

Edit - just to add - damn fine choice getting a cmvs!

no loading times, more frames of animation, better, more precise controls

and the fact its on the original neogeo hardware.

try it for yourself, play motw on ps2 or dc, then play it on homecart or MVS.

same with dreamcast kof98, or kof99 or whatever.

The best port of motw is ps2
The best port of last blade 2 is dreamcast

I think last blade 2 is the best port of an snk game on dreamcast but its still not as good as on the mvs obviously

Most people won't notice any difference though, it's not something to worry about unless you are really, really into your SNK stuff.
