Playstaion 2 Import? Questions

So I've had a PS2 slimline but now with a PS3 I'm planing on selling it but the only thing still making me hold onto it is the games I've imported from the US all my other Pal games work on my PS3, the only problem is my copy of Swap Magic is starting to mess up it boots only once every day O_o and sometimes it doesn't even boot.

So I was thinking I could sell it and just import a US but how much would that be? seems ebay hardly have any and not to mention I'd have to buy the step down too wouldn't I?

So what would be best:

-Get it chipped?
If so:
Can I do it myself?
Where can I get what I'd need?
Would it play dual-layer games?

-Sell it and get a US one?
If so:
Where from?
Where can I pick up a cheap step-down?

Keep in mind I don't really wanna spend too much just got myself the Crisis Core PSP for ?200 and thats put a huge enough hole in my wallet.

A US PS2 shouldn't cost you too much. You really shouldn't pay more than about £70 at the very most for a slim one. A lot less for an old school model.

There's a 'mod chip' on the horizon that just plugs into a memory card slot. No soldering/wires - nothing. Might be wrth waiting for it?

Yeah i was looking to chip my bulker ps2 soon but if a new memory cards coming then perfect.

If you get a US slim ps2, you wont need a stepdown, a uk pal ps2 psu will work just fine.
