Is it possible to transplant the innards of a US SNES cartridge into a SFC case, to avoid having to use an adaptor / widen the cart slot on a SFC?

Depending on the game yes its possible. The cart type will have to match though.
For example if you swap starfox you would need another sfx cart case to swap it into to accomodate the extra sfx cart pins.
just make sure you dont plug it in backwards or you'll blow the fuse. -
That's fantastic news, thanks for that. As for 'backwards' - aren't all the chips on the board on one side, making it easy to tell? One last thing...are there any other variations in cart type that you know of, apart from the SFX carts?Comment

Nah as long as you get one that matches you should be ok, the only board differences i know about is the sfx boards with the extra connectors on there.Comment
