    Interference Laptop on LCD

    Hi all,
Got a prob seems to be related to interference. I've hooked up my Acer 1691 wlmi laptop via VGA to my Samsung LE32N73BDX set and get a hell of a lot of interferece when I plug the power cable into my laptop to charge it while watchign a movie on the laptop through the T.V etc.
I know this is some sort of interference issue as without the power lead in the picture is great, with it in lines roll down the screen.

I have tried putting blockers on the leads etc. and even tried putting a sheet of metal over between the keyboard and screen on the laptop but to no avail. Wondered if buying a longer VGA cable would stop the interference or if anyone had any other suggestions????

    cheers

Longer VGA cables would only create more interferences, as the signal deteriorates over distances due to a number of factors. A cable with a proper shielding should do the trick, however, as you described the problem it sounds more like an electrical interference within the laptop itself, like the battery generating a stronger electromagnetic field while charging, thus disrupting the VGA out.
This is a wild guess, however. I'd contact Acer and ask them if there's something faulty, if the battery acts as I described I would ask for a replacement ASAP: don't know when you bought it, but a lot of brands recalled several laptop models due to battery malfunctions not so long ago.

Hmm thanks for that mate. Yeah i did know about the recall, don't believe mine was one of the models recalled but in need of a new battery anyhow so may be worth giving them a buzz. Thanks mate.
*edit* After taking a look round the web doesnt sem to be one of the batteries recalled. Do you still think it's worth picking up another battery - as it could be the battery itself that's the problem?

It's only a possibility. It's cheaper to buy a new, good, VGA cable or test the laptop with an other monitor. I wrote about the battery because if it was a faulty VGA out it would have displayed statics/corruptions even without the battery charging. If changing cable and other monitors have the same problem call Acer and explain the problem, it would be useless to buy an other battery when it could something related to the circuitry and not the battery itself. If you already have an other battery or someone that has your same laptop you can try to swap it and see what happens.
