    PS3 surround sound problems

    HELP NEEDED !!

Just set up my new 5.1 system to PS3 and have a very annoying problem.

My ps3 is connected directly to my sony strdg910b receiver which then connects through switcher to TV via another hdmi cable. I selected hdmi as sound output and selected automatic settings on PS3. Almost every box is ticked up to pcm 7.1

My problem is that I am only receiving PCM 2 48hz through my receiver!!! Help please. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you mean for games, DVDs or Blu-Rays? In the audio set up menu, have you changed the output from Bitstream to LPCM?

I was trying to get sound output through hdmi, on blu-ray and games I was only getting linear pcm 2 48hz output.
I have since changed to optical and bitstream settings and I now get 5.1 ok.

I bought one of my hdmi cables off of flea bay. It could be, that the cable is not up to the job. It is annoying, as it should work through hdmi.

It turns out I was getting uncompressed pcm 5.1 surround sound through hdmi which is way better than dolby digital, oops.

Optical cable removed and back to hdmi...this may help other people in the future.

Are you happy with the DG910 and PS3 combination? I'm thinking of buying one of these amps very soon.

I am not really clued up on all things audio to be honest, I bought the strdg910 as it provides a bit of scope as far future proofing goes. I have had no problems to speak of. I have had a couple of black screen flickers through the hdmi out but it really is a very very occasional thing. I am very impressed with the sound output. I bought the tannoy efx 5. 1 speaker set to go with it. Casino royale blu-ray sounds amazing in uncompressed 5.1 PCM.

I am no expert but it seems to be a decent receiver, plenty of inputs and 3 optical in ports help.

Thanks That seems to be what everyone is saying about it. Everyone who has one is impressed that it sounds so good for a (relatively) cheap amplifier. It's a lot of money for most people but, compared to other amplifiers with this kind of specification, it's incredibly cheap.
