Importing a JAP/US modded Gamecube

Hi everyone,

After all the problems with Freeloader and F-Zero GX I 'm severly tempted to get a JAP/US modded Gamecube.

Both Play-Asia & Lik-Sang have them for about ?95 plus P&P.

However I'm pretty sure these wouldn't get through customs without getting whacked for duty.

Anyone know what extra cost I would be likely have to pay for this pleasure!

If anyone has ordered similar products from these suppliers I'd be interested in your stories and advice on import costs and postage method you choose.

If you want it fast then your going to have to use a courier. eg UPS / Fedex / DHL. If you do then its a certainty that you will have to pay import tax, duty and vat.

Id say put on about ?50 which gives you room if you get charged less.

Also keep an eye out in the trading folder because theres always someone selling a US GameCube and also modded GameCubes.

You could always go down the route of buying a US GC in the trading folder for ?60 - ?80 and then getting it modded by Saurian?

Im sure in the long run it would work out cheaper.

i'm sure if you email liksang or playasia, they will mark the package down so that you wont get taxed as much or not at all

I'm pretty sure that Lik-Sang mark down packages.

I was also looking at the modded GCs at Lik-sang. I think that you'll have to buy a modded RGB lead with those consoles if you want ture RGB!

thanks for your advice, I was wondering whether anyone had bought a Gamecube console from either Lik-Sang or Play-Asia.

If so, were you successful in NOT getting whacked for import duty if you asked them to mark the package down?

I'd appreciate any advice from past buyers and any others

I got an unmodded cube from Lik Sang about 2 months after the Jap launch and they marked down the price by 50% (that's the most they'd do) and I didnt get charged *that* much.

If you get things shipped by UPS expect to be ass raped for vat/import duty...

I got a jap modded platinum cube from play-asia, the mod wad done nicely and the console came quickly with ups - postage was a wopping ?30 but the console was only ?90 - I didn't feel too badly done by 8)

sorry!! to add to that it was sent by UPS, but play-asia didn't put any green sticker on or anything indicating how much it was worth

They labelled it video game accessories also!!

So no import fees for me! - UPS is delivery in 3 working days with online tracking, you can get them to send you an sms just before it arrives also, hehe

It may be worth looking at www.yesasia.com - free postage (from a UK warehouse). My modded Spice Cube is still working well after six months or so.
