New Sony TV in temporary mayhem shocker.

Yesterday, we bought a Sony KD32DX40 (32 inch, widescreen etc).

We got it home and set it up, everything was good. However, when we went to turn it on today (it having been turned off about 10 minutes earlier) we were shocked to see the picture was a psychadellic mess and the image shifted about 10 centimeters to the left.

The TV could ony display a horrible rainbow effect of colour (even on its internal menu etc)
I tried removing and reconnecting everything, but to no avail.
We paniced, called Sony, they arranged for it to be fixed on Tuesday.

A few minutes later I went to have one last try of fixing it (no-one having touched it since the picture was all horrible) and when I turned it on, the picture was perfect again.

    Any idea what caused this?

well my tv (grundig)does the same sorta thing, except u get all black lines everywhere, simply turning it off by the remote and turning it back on resolves the problem !

Sounds as if the degausing coil (or the connection for it) may have come loose in transit.

Like the previous post, i'd exchange it. Once you have accepted a repair the shop could get arsey about replacing it later. If they dont offer a replacement go for a refund, as the goods aren't fit for the purpose. Some shops claim to have their own ****ty policies, but if the goods aren't what you paid for they have to replace or refund (this includes C*met and D*xons group, who seem to write they own consumer law on a daily basis).

The TV is from John Lewis (we had ?200 in vouchers to use there ) so I'll see what they say about a replacement.
          Thanks guys.

I have a friend who works for a Sony Centre. He said to me that at one point they were taking two of each TV out on an install as this happened alot. When they plugged the TV in it would do as in your description or just not power up. That was about 3 years ago though. If you have no joy with John Lewis (which you probably will) just phone Sony and they should sort it out.
