    Wii component cable, which one?

    Hey there,

I have my Wii connected via the official Wii RGB cable but want to try progressive scan as my tv supports it.

What i want to know is which is the best one? the official Wii one or the Fanatec one on Amazon perhaps?

Also, if i have my Wii connected via component and want to play a Gamcube game through PAL 60, how does this work?

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    Also,

Which Wii titles are progressive scan enabled? is there a list?

    Thanks,

    Ben.

Found this thread running a search today, disappointed that there's no responses

Anyway I managed to test both the official and Game own-brand cables today thanks to a helpful shop assistant There was no difference at all TBH - the picture is only 480i so if there is any difference in picture quality it wouldn't show up anyway. The only thing I will say is the build quality of the official one is far superior with better quality plastic and connectors. I noticed when I plugged in the Game own-brand one (which I bought as it was £8 cheaper) the plugs are obviously cheap, high-tolerance jobs as they seem quite stiff when I plug them in or out of my telly, compared to say my official 360 component plugs.

Has anyone tried this cable? I'm guessing the same will hold true for the build quality as Matty mentioned. I think it's the same as the P-A $10 cable, someone must have picked one of them up..?

        Cheers chaps!

never skimp on cables if you want the best possible picture. Always go official.

There's a monster one on playasia for £30 that's probably pretty good. Why wouldn't you just buy the official one though for £15?

Was just curious, is all. I'll probably get an official one but I wondered if the third party cables were an adequate solution for most people.

If somebody else you trust has recommended a make cheaper than the official one I'd seriously consider it. But otherwise why spend more than you have to on a cable. The official one should be good enough for all but the most anal AV nerd types so there's no good reason to spend any more than that.

In my experience cost is no guarantee of image quality. I have the official MS HD XBox component cable, it cost me ?28 inc. p&p. I later found an independent brand version, gold plated contacts, heavy duty insulation, separate optical audio/AV block too, unlike some others, being sold in a local electronics shop for ?12.99. Absolutely no image quality difference visible to my eye.

You can spend ?30+ on a cable but it might give you any noticeable advantage over one at half the price. You're just paying for exotic metals and manufacturing processes of dubious value or simple over-engineering IMHO.

I have messed around with quite a few different component cables and consoles over the last year.

I was forced to buy the cheap PA cable for my Wii because I had zero spare cash at the time. Luckily, it turns out to be one of the best component cables I own. Notwithstanding the apparent variability in build quality amongst third party cables, it is as good as it could possibly be.

Unlike this, my Xbox Monster Cable and PS2 cheapy PA cable leave horrible ghosting and other interference. Even my 360 official cable has had problems in the past.
