    Prog Scan

The TV K2110PF by Goodmans apparently has Progressive Scan, but has no component phono, BNC or HDMI inputs. Just Scart (1 RGB) and S-video. How would a progressive image be achieved?

Update: I just scanned (no pun intended) the TV guide on this site, and have come to the conclusion it must be an internal de-interlacer.

Another question: The guide mentions that component inputs are great for consoles that do not naturally output in RGB, like the GameCube. Surely the GameCube does diplay RGB naturally? I've got the official RGB Scart cable...If not, what was the point in Nintendo making it?

I think the guide is referring to NTSC versions of the GC, where RGB is not catered for (as it's a minority connection).

It's a bit cheeky that that Goodman's set alleges to be prog scan, because deinterlacing is NOT progessive by any means, it's a pseudo-attempt at it (although I'm sure I remember a B&O set that claimed to do prog scan through Scart(?)).

I think a few Lowe sets take component over scart with an adaptor, tho I imagine on the Goodmans its something similar to JVC's DIST which overlays 2 interlaced fields to sharpen the image.

Ja, my Toshiba PF2 has a deinterlacer on board, and it's better than the deinterlacer in my Panny DVD player, tbh. Still a poor second to true prog scan, mind. You lose a fair bit of sharpness.

That's right. I have the PS2 hooked up to my Loewe Xelos via Scart but running component out. Worked on the older Aconda model as well.

If the Goodmans model in question suports that it would probably yield a better picture than normal RGB via Scart.

I have to say the JVC DIST does work very well. I've a HV-32P37 and by messing about with the that and other settings you can improve the standard PQ noticeably.

There are separate RGB SCART to component converters you can buy so I wouldn't be surprised if some TVs included it as well.

Perhaps somebody here knows this, there might be good reasons, but I can't see why a SCART lead couldn't be used to carry a component output from a console or other device. Presumably it would need a specific component to SCART lead which is probably why it isn't done ie. the console's component video output would need to be sent down 3 corresponding SCART lead wires. But surely it is all just a matter of physical connections. If the component inputs for the TV are wired to the corresponding pins on the receiving SCART socket wouldn't that work?

It would be a SCART plug connection but you'd be getting 480i/576i through component rather than RGB and, if the game and TV allowed it, prog scan too.

I have the same TV as you and I use the min DIST setting for all viewing and its pretty spectacular for DVD over component, and good for TV tho at close range a bit blocky tho what can you do about dodgy digital tv, with a decent source its a wonder i agree.....if the TV did 60hz RGB id say its beyond awesome but as it is its a bit of a **** in that respect.

Your point about comp over scart is interesting I dont know why there arent leads/connections with this facility, can only assume it would only be a novelty?

Bit of a noob question here..

How is a progressive scan image achieved? Through a component cable? All I got when trying through the rgb scart was a blank image. I also take it that if the TV has no component sockets.. then it doesn't support PS mode?

Component, HDMI, VGA or DVI. Any of those will do it.
