    New laptop sound problem

The woman got a new Fujitsu Siemens laptop on Sunday. Last night after setting it up it appears that the sound is buggered. It sounds as though it's underwater, and it's very quiet. We cranked the volume right up to the top, but it's extremely difficult to hear anything, and what you can hear is very distorted. We also tried hooking it up to external speakers, and to headphones, but again the same thing. I originally thought that the onboard speakers were blown, but then with the external speakers and headphones doing the same thing make me think it may be the soundcard?

Any ideas anyone? She doesn't really want to take it back unless she really has to, so she asked me to ask you lot incase it's something we've missed. Also so that we don't look like SPKKRs in the store if we do take it back, and there is infact nowt wrong with it.

    I'd appreciate any help.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled your sound card drivers? Or forget the drivers completely (don't reinstall) and let Vista configure the sound card?

It's XP, can that configure the soundcard? I'll try the reinstall thing I guess, see if that fixes it.

Wicked Josh, how do I let it configure it then? If you could inform me so that I can forward on the details to teh Enemy so she can do it before I go home that'd be great. I might even get some dinner then too.
