    Ripping Audio Tracks From DVDs?

I've had a look and I've not seen a thread for this on here.

The title explains it all really.

I've got some DVDs and I want to rip the soundtracks into a stereo CD quality format but don't know what software to use.

It's going to be like ripping your own CDs so you can listen to them on your iPod or another player.

I want to do exactly the same with a couple of DVDs that I own, if I can rip the whole soundtrack I'll spend some time editing it down into separate tracks later.

There may be complications due to the fact that as they are DVDs and probably protected.

Has anybody done this before? What's the best/easiest way to do it?

Don't know about PC, but on Mac I've used MacTheRipper and then mAC3dec.

What you want is the AC3-part of the DVD, the audio. When you get that, you must convert it to *Wav and tracksplit it in Audacity (or whatever audio editing software you prefer).

      Thanks,

That'll give something to look for now I know it's AC3.

I'm guessing that the AC3 track will be protected though? There seem to be a few AC3 rippers out there which I'll look into.

If anybody has used any AC3 rippers I'd appreciate the advice!

I ripped out the AC3-part of a U2 DVD I got and didn't have any problems with protection, but I guess that differs from DVD to DVD.

Did a search for Windows version of MacTheRipper and ended up with DVD Shrink being recommended in a couple of places.

The good news is that it's free and people seem happy with it after using it so I'll give it a go.

          Anybody on here tried it?

I had a bit of a look around at a few forums and downloaded some trial versions and eventually settled on DVD Audio Ripper.

I had a bit of a play with it and it does exactly what I want it to do. It's simply a matter of sticking a DVD in, choosing the tracks you want to rip, selecting what file you want the music to be converted to and press go!

It's not the most advanced piece of software but it does exactly what it should do. If I need to edit any audio I have separate software which I'd use anyway.

It only cost me about ?14 which seemed like a fair price for it.

            Thanks MoFo!

Magic dvd ripper will do it as well as converting dvds to various other device formats ie PSP, Ipod (which are ****) and Zune (which is fab)

This has a PSP conversion tab in it...can't imagine I'd really use it though.
