    us PS3 mains advice

I've just got a ps3 through the post from movietyme but the plug end is really weird. It's got two thin prongs like you would get on a normal us plug and a round prong above that.

I was under the impression that it used a standard figure 8 lead but this obviously isn't the case.

Those plugs are older US style pugs, back when thier sockets used an earth. Strange your PS3 has one.

Just change it for a UK cable, as the internal PSU is 100-240v. (My PS3 is US)

It's a standard cable you can pick up on the high street for a couple of quid.

Check the internal PSU is dual voltage to be sure before plugging it in. - saw a post somewhere that maybe the new 80gb models weren't.

It doesn’t use a figure 8 lead, but a ‘kettle’ lead like you’d have on your PC. Any standard lead you could buy in the shops would work with your PS3 (I salvaged one from a bunch of old IT equip that was about to be binned).

Not sure what you mean by this mate. I meant change the mains cable you get with your US PS3, for a UK cable that has the same fitting. Even somewhere like Woolworths should sell them, as they are a standard cable, pretty much.

Go and ask the IT dept at work for a kettle lead, if it's anything like ours they probably have a piles of them!

                Best advice evar!

After moving house a few years ago I needed to buy one of these and went to the local computer shop - they dropped their price when I said, "WTF!?!? A fiver for frikkin' kettle lead!?!?", but IMO even ?2.50 is too much. I'm not saying Mr Pavey is wrong, but I would be surprised if Wollies sell these, and I'll bet PC World charge ?8 (insert gold-plater speaker-cable joke here).

                Stroller.

As others say, it's just a bog standard kettle cable that your PC uses, and probablly your kettle too!
