VGA vs HDMI on an LCD monitor

2 questions:

1. So can anyone give me a tip on what is the best res i should have my HP w2207 22 inch monitor on thru VGA?

2. And also, if I bought the new 360 V2 Premium Pro Console with HDMI would I get a better picture on my w2207 using my DVI connection than I would with my VGA connection?

I currently have a premium 360 w/out the HDMI but am thinking of selling it to get the premium pro if its worth it for the HDMI picture quality. I just want to make sure I'm utilising my monitor to its best ability. I just had a tought: If I were to buy the HDMI 360 would I be able to switch HD's before I sell mine in order to keep my saves/LIVE gamertag & info?

The screen has a native res of 1680x1050, of which there is no direct match on the 360 (this has been the source of much moaning on the XBox forums, because it's an increasingly common resolution).

My gut tells me 1280x768 might be best, as it's the same aspect ratio and very near the 360 rendering res. Also try 1920x1080 and see which you prefer. There is no right or wrong really, it'll depend which resolution your monitor looks best with.

In theory, DVI should always be better than VGA. In reality, it depends on the capabilties of the monitor. In the real world, you'll unlikely see a difference unless your monitor simply has better support for one over the other.
May as well go with DVI though.

Do not buy 1...x768 tv's.

1280x720 is the exact match. Here's a 8ms 1280x720 tv for ?229/$460 (1:1 pixel mapping for the 360 720p games). Crap for standard definition though, I don't watch tv so it's all good for me as I need a new hdtv. According to this thread it has component inputs. The 32" version of this tv is 1...x768 though.

Seems like it sold out though - was gonna but one yesterday when it was in stock.

There's not a huge selection of 1280x720 native TV's though, the large majority of them are 1366x768. I'd say the quality of the processing/scaling/etc in the TV is far more important than native resolution, especially when very few TV's display 720p without at least some level of overscan, so your still unlikely to get a 1:1 picture.

Besides, topic starter is talking about a PC monitor!

Yeah, most of the good panels are 1366x768 (or 1920x1080).
