360 PSU query...

Had a launch day 360 that went pop. Just received a new 360 with HDMI (think it's a falcon too). They've changed the PSU so that it has a different kettle lead to the mains and the PSU brick is a newer revision. The connector to the 360 remains the same.

Question is - can I use the old PSU from my launch console? It's buried beneath my AV cabinet and a major pain to swap them over.

The manual says to only use the PSU that came with the console.....

Anyone know if it will be ok? Don't want to blow it up on day 1!

It's a good question and one I don't know the answer to but is relevant to me because I'm in the same situation. You'd think the power in would be the same and as long as the plug was the same no problem. Question is how would they ever know or be able to prove whish PSU you were using if it had a fault and had to go back again?

On another point what makes you think your machine is a falcon?

I'm not aware of any compatability probs with PSU's.

Best thing to do is check the output figures shown on both PSU's (on the sticker on the bottom of the PSU) - if they match then you'll be fine.

ps. I'm using my UK Elite PSU (which I'd guess is the latest type of PSU if there've been revisions) and it works fine with my US 360 which was manufactured in 2006.

Obviously they wouldn't know if it does blow it up, just don't want the hassle of sending a brand new console back again....

There's a way to tell if you have a falcon by the lot number, manufacture team and manufacture date that's printed on the box. Also, if you look in the vents with a torch, the heatsink's are different (not done this yet). Big thread about it here on the official forums :-

They both output the same voltage, so I wouldn't worry

I have a Rev01 PSU that came with my console and a Rev00 PSU I use whenever I got to lans (saves me packing up the other one) and it has been fine.

I believe they are now up to Rev04.
