At first I did hate Vista because some things were moved that didnt need it, but I have found my way round now so do not mind using it, I do think it does Tax a PC with all its glitter( but that glitter is pretty)

I've had it a few months and I've had a few problems , but I think that is just PC's to be honest.
It all works as it should do and IT CAN EVEN RUN GAMES!

Ah, I don't run many games, just steam stuff and the odd popcap game. All those have been Ok, only final fantasy XI had a few issues I think they have been solved(Most were before I stopped playing)

Vista is a LOT better now than it was at launch, and the 64-bit version can be used happily without concerns that stuff might not work properly.

At the same time, they have changed and moved a lot to try and make it more 'fisher price', but those of us who do know what we're doing will wonder why things aren't where you expect them to be. You do relearn it, but the first few days will be constant wondering 'okay where did they move this to?!'. The Control Panel is now a mammoth beast that I avoid.

I'd not bother upgrading from XP to Vista mind, but people looking to buy a new OS might as well go Vista. I've been messing with Ubuntu over the weekend, and it's made me take back the complaints I had about windows before - love Ubuntu, but Windows 'just works', and that's great for people like me with less free time.

I bought a new laptop about 6 months ago which came with vista 32bit. I changed it to vista 64 bit as it has a 64bit processor and it was much faster

FFXI problems all solved with a new client. All other games run great.

Id rather use it over xp now!

I'm more than happy with Vista as a rule. The two main gripes I have are the annoyingly constant 'Are you sure' prompts and the fact that it's not just a simple case of pointing 'My Documents' to a new location in order to restore my backed up docs/pics/vids structure. It really didn't need virtual locations for all of that crap.

Its a mess if you have an 8800 like me, it worked then id didn't then I install SP1 and its flying playing games faster than it ever did.
Now I cant run aero without it crashing

Control Panel->User Accounts and disable User Account Control! Though the basic idea of ensuring nothing can execute without user authorisation is a good one in theory.

On my machine I built myself I found it incredibly unstable and went back to XP. However in total contrast on my Dell laptop it's solid as a rock and perfectly usable.

I would imagine that the final release of SP1 which is due to drop very soon is going to solve a LOT of problems people are having, as well as increasing performance overall.

As Shakey Jake says, switching off the UAC is a must!

I think there's still a lot of software/drivers that haven't been updated to work under Vista. A lot of people here at work are using Virtual PC, running XP, to do certain tasks still.

To echo the comments about Ubuntu, I moved from Vista to Ubuntu on my laptop and haven't looked back, it's so much quicker and like it very much. I do however use Vista on my desktop PC and find it ok, just wonder what they spent 6 years developing, other than just moving stuff around and a 3D interface?

1 year to write the OS. 5 years to devise all the different versions.

I found it unbearable, get a new core 2 duo laptop with 2GB RAM out of the box, switch it on, it boots into 806MB RAM with no applications used or loaded, then constantly thrashes the hard disk for the next ten minutes (wtf? it has 2GB RAM), until I reboot, and put the XP CD in. I find it a complete pain I have to support this garbage.
