    Pal PS3 60GB: Worth Buying?

Is it worth paying ?50+ more for the 60GB PS3 over the 40GB version.

I hear that the Pal Backwards Compatibility isn't very good anyway. Has it improved, do the games look acceptable and load faster?

I can't make up my mind whether to not bother about the BC of the 60GB and just go for a 40GB.

With the 60GB being ?350 with two games, is that the best option? .... I've seen somewhere selling the 40GB version for ?280.

    All opinions appreciated.

well virgin and gamestation both do the 60gig for £350 with 2 games and 2 blurays, argos have got it for £350 with either 3 games or 2games and a 2nd pad.

shopto.net are the ones selling the 40gig for £280

i buckled on monday, and got 1 from argos, ps3 60gig, motorstorm, resistance and heavenly sword for ?350.

so for an extra ?50 i got +20gig on the HD, and 3 games, so i think the 60 is worth buying over the 40 at present.

I wasn't expecting much from emulated backwards compatibility, after the painful drag it's been on the 360, but I honestly am impressed with how the PS3 handles it.

90% of my games work without a problem, and I can list them (or the key games) if it helps. At the moment my PS3 is running at 1080i through official component cables, and with the upscale turned on, they generally look sharper, smoother, and the colours are fantastic. I don't know if it's expected, but some slowdown has been reduced from some games. I really can't fault it.

Prior to that my PS2 was displaying them through a Blaze RGB scart, so maybe it's partly due to the cable change, I dunno. But I'm very happy with the BC at the moment despite.

That's good to hear. I've just looked through a BC list, and most of my collection are said to work perfectly. In fact... I don't think I have many of the games that don't run well.

I look forward to seeing how things look on my tv, as I've just ordered the 60GB version with Motorstorm and Ridge Racer 7.
