I have copied the intro mpeg2 file from the R-Type final DVD (which I own) and am trying to play it on my PC. The Video plays perfectly but a valid codec for the sound cannot be found. Does anybody know what audio codec is being used?

AFAIK there's no standard codecs for use on PS2 games, its really up to the developer. Then there's the hassle of trying to find a codec for downloading. A better solution would probably be to hook your PS2 to the Line In socket of your graphics card and record it with Windows Movie Maker or something similar.
