    PSP Questions

    Hi guys

Currently in Tokyo on hols and have just picked up a white PSP slim. I`ve never owned a PSP before and no pretty much nothing about the homebrew/modding/firmware malarky so am looking for some sage advice. I apologise in advance for my naivity, but I`ve really never taken any interest in what the PSP can and can`t do before I just picked one up. Questions....

    1) I`m currently running firmware 3.6. Is this something I should change and what benefit would I get? If so, how would I go about changing it?

    2) I would like to download play SNES or MD games on my PSP. Any advice where to get relevent emulators and then how to transfer it onto my PSP (would I stick it in the memory stick duo?). Naturally, I would only want to play games I already own.

    3) I would like to watch films and videos I have on my PC. Would the PSP play films I transfer straight onto my memory stick duo or would I need to convert them?

    4) Finally I`ve heard something along the lines of the PSP having a technical advantage over the original PSP in terms of caching and RAM (meaning that games stream easier and there are shorter loading times?). How would I go about sorting this out?

Point 3 - you need to reencode them to fit the PSP standards - 480x272 with an H.264 codec, IIRC. Manual tells more about this and you can download an english copy at Sony's website.

Point 4 - UMD caching is on by default, it's under the settings menu.

      Hi there,

A slight hi-jack of this thread, but it's a related question: can anyone tell me what kind of memory stick I need for the PSP? I just got a slim, too.

Is it only the Memory Stick "Pro Duo" that works in the PSP?

My favourite supplier of memory things also lists the "Micro M2" Sony Memory Stick, and I also thought there was a regular, non-pro, non-duo "Sony Memory Stick".

Any suggestions as to a cheap place to buy these? I don't want to pay silly money just to save games, but it seems silly to buy one too small to hold a movie.

      Stroller.

The PSP accepts only Pro Duo Memory Sticks.

It supports MS Duo as well.
