Xbox 360 can't find my Ip settings

I have had an Xbox 360 for about a year now and have had few problems with live.

However as of late i just get booted out and the Xbox can't find my IP settings.

I think this maybe due to a new laptop in the house taking up the xbox wireless adapter address.

I was just wondering how i go about changing the Xbox wireless adapter address on my so it can connect.

Also as i am just guessing this is the problem does anybody have any other ideas as to the problem?

    Cheers

Not quite sure what you're asking here, but I'll give it a go.

Is it a static IP address that has settings assigned in your router? I've not used the wireless adapter, but if you look in connection settings on your 360, you can enter a manual IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.4), the gateway address (the same as your router's web application address, e.g. 192.168.1.1) and subnet mask (usually,IIRC, 255.255.255.0).

You would also need to setup the router for that connection through it's web app. It might be that your new computer is automatically connecting to your Xbox's static IP address automatically. Each new connection/IP address is assigned automatically if it is on Dynapic IP, so the first computer gets 192.168.1.2, the second 192.168.1.3... etc.

If your Xbox was 192.168.1.4 and you had three computers already connected when you turn your Xbox on it would fail to connect because it's static IP address was already in use.

This is just one reason why you should use either entirely dynamic IP assignment or static. I prefer static because of the need for port forwarding for things like bittorrent or Xbox Live voice communication.

    Is that any help?

I think it is static, but i am not sure, how do i find out?

The Xbox was working fine then the computer the modem was connected to broke, when it came back fixed the Xbox would not connect.

At the same time a new laptop came into the network.

I asume that the laptop has taken the place of the Xbox on the network (but again it is just a guess).

If you go to the System Management blade (or whatever it's called - furthest right) and look you should see a network settings option or similar. Within that it will have an option for manual or automatic configuration. The former is static the latter is dynamic. Static is something you have to choose with the 360.

Are you connection sharing? You say you have your modem connected to a computer has been fixed. I'm not an expert on connection sharing as I don't use a PC (or mac for that matter). That info kind of contradicts your earlier statement. If not, could you clarify what is connected to what and how?
