    iMac game recommendations...?

So my m8 has just gone and bought himself an uber iMac with ridiculous specs and though not being into games has asked what game he should buy to stretch it legs as it were.

I've had a scan through the small amount available and tbh there's not much choice. Rpg and rts are ruled out so it's looking like a shooter or sports.

I'm thinking something by EA, maybe TW'08 or suchlike as this should be relatively up to date.

As for shpooters, he doesn't want anything which is online only as I was thinking 2142 (fussy bugger I know!) so am tempted to recommend Halo or CoD2 but although great games are a tad long in the tooth regards gfx and suchlike.

So, anyone care to recommend a game to make his iMac sing...?

have a look here for some ideas, the site has links to Aspyr and Ambrosia - two of the more prominent Mac games publishers. thankfully the delay between PC and Mac versions for games isn't as awful as it used to be.

failing that, get BootCamp whack a stripped down version of XP on and game away like billy-o

The only games that will really show off graphics on the mac are bf2142, C&C, Age of Empires 3 and X3. However later this year / early next year Neverwinter Nights 2 and Quake Wars are coming out.

Then of couse he can set up Windows with Bootcamp like i Have and then he can play anything he likes. I have one of the new iMacs and it can run everything pretty damn well actually, World in Conflict is a good one for graphics.

Ok thx for the ideas. I suggested just runnign xp etc but he wasn't too keen, he's a total mac addict and wants mac specific games etc.

Not to worry i shall discus with him...thx again...

All Blizzard games and the Football Manager series have Mac versions on the disc. Buy the PC versions and just drop them in.

Might I also recommend DEFCON which was out on PC a while ago and recently got ported to the Mac. I thought it was brilliant, and anyone who likes that 80s classic WarGames will get a kick out of the concept and graphical style.

you have to watch with the Blizzard games - with some older versions you will have to download an OSX version of the main launcher, otherwise it will try and run in Classic mode.
