Using a US 360 gold live card on PAL machine ?

I was wondering if this can be done ? should be ok since its just a code ?

Works out cheaper if I get a year gold membership code from the US. Unless one of you know where I can find one cheaper over here ?

Any help about this would be great :P

I'm afraid not - they're region locked. That goes for MS points too, I believe.

They can be used on a PAL machine if you make a US account

They used to work but as stated recent ones are region locked.

I have a US 360 and a US Xbox Live Account, so I'm guessing US points cards will work? It's not that they somehow detect based on your IP address?

The region of the console and where on the planet it is currently reciding has no bearing whatsoever.

I believe the region checking cross-references your address that is linked to the .net passport you have your gamer tag associated to.

Things get muddier depending on whether you created your account on a 360 or an original Xbox.

Ah good, it was on a 360, and yes, my .NET account resides in the US. "Lyris" has lived in New York, zip code 11011 for the last 7 years

Dirt-cheap MS points, here I come.

I've got a US 360, US account/ address* and I can use US points cards to buy Live Arcade games etc. but I cannot download video content.

I get a message along the lines that for copyright reasons the content isn't available to my area.....guess the checks must be more stringent for video content....

Account was originally created on a 360.

(*will double check my .net account to see if that's a US addy too)

The video marketplace requires a US credit card and I believe they also do IP checks to make sure you are in the US.

Yes, there's a whole catalog of video content that I'm not allowed to buy, because I am a filthy foreigner. I'll need to try and find a way around that.

                        Ah, that'd explain it.

Just checked my .net account and it does indeed have a US addy. Guess there must be IP checks as you suggest, as it's my location rather than billing method it's picking up on.

Not a prob for me but I know Lyris is a bit of a film buff.

Too bad I'm not a networking buff (quite the opposite in fact) so probably don't know how to get around this irritation.

Actually, why bother... I know it's not Microsoft's fault, but if the studios want their downloadable content wrapped up like this, then they can keep it to be honest. </rant>
