    Confession: I'm scared of NTSC

Okay, i've joined because I've seriously got myself worked up about ntsc! I ordered my R1 DVD,people might think its silly but as I'm a novice to this stuff I decided to read up on what i thought was something simple before i spent my cash. Now I thought it all seemed real simple and that I can purchase any cheap region free dvd player for ?25-?30 and watch my DVD but is that really the case? Since I orded the R1 disc, I've discovered nasty and scary terms, RCE - some places say its comming in with force, others say its died out and applied to about 20 DVDs in total. NTSC 4.43- what my TV is capable of, so it can handle a NTSC disc?
    Yours worridly...Mark.

You'll be fine. RCE is irrelevant in the majority of cases. If your DVD player is region free, chances are it can be set to a specific region. So if your disc is RCE protected to region 1, simply change your DVD player to region 1, and it'll play fine.

RCE is mainly used on Sony disks I think, and Ive never had problems with it on any of the 100 plus R1 dvd's I own.

And yes if its a NTSC compatiable 4:3 TV then it will play NTSC, dont worry, it really is that simple. There are very few tv's these days (if any?) that are sold and not NTSC compatible.

Although almost certainly your region free dvd player bought in the UK will output in PAL60
Get a proper rgb scart cable and set the dvd palyer output to "RGB" for best pic quality and to bypass any worries about pal or ntsc
(I'm presuming you have a CRT TV with scart and that you don't have a component enabled TV - however if you have the latter, 3 phono sockets red green blue, like you get on HD Ready TVs then use that..... confused? don't be. it's pretty easy).

Thanks for the welcome it is a CRT, i'll defo keep in mind what you said about the RGB, though i'm hoping one day to afford to upgrade to a nice HD TV which is why i'm trying to hold out on spending much on a dvd player - waiting for the Bray and hddvd battle to end and prices to drop so I can swap it for an 'all in one' player without feeling bad about wasting cash! Thanks for the advice though, i'll see how i get on.
