Don't try and complete the game on your first few tries, Frank isn't really all that powerful to start with. Just spend time getting used to the mall layout, finding where the best weapons are, killing some zombies, taking some good photos and performing the odd rescue operation for experience points, trying to get his level up.

When you die, it'll save your current level, and when you restart, you'll start at that level.

Once you've got a few extra inventory slots, and a bigger health bar, then consider tackling the story mode head on.

Yes, you only have one save slot, but it's not a big deal, and adds to the suspense. The story mode only takes about 6 hours to finish in total, once you know what to do, so don't be worried about missing stuff.

Don't stress out about rescuing everyone. SRSLY. I hate to let NPCs die and nearly gave myself an ulcer trying to save them all. Same with the 'psycho' battles. Some are just impossible until you level up. You only need to complete the story missions to finish the three-day game, which will in turn help you level up.

Learn to use the camera early on - there are special events and scenesthat are worth 1000's of points if you snap them, which really takes the grind out of levelling up.

On a related note, keep you eye out for little yellow 'pp' stickers. If you see one or you see 'pp %' appear on screen when using the camera, adjust your view until it says 100% and take a photo FOR GAINS!

Also try to avoid cutting through the park if you can go the same way by staying indoors... you'll see why soon enough

Top Tip - go up into the diner just outside the security room and check the fridge at the end of the counter. It's full of orange juice, which restores loads of health. You can take as much as you want as iirc it's infinite. Once you've done that, look out onto the aprons just over the other side fo the rail (looking down over the mall floor). One of the aprons has a samurai sword on it. Remember this and you can arm and stock on health before venturing out on missions.

If you want to do the story mode, just go for the story quests only and save as soon as you've finished each quest - giving you enough time to complete the next one.

It's really not too bad, as long as you are conservative with saves. It's better to not save and do something over than save and then realise you've fouled the whole thing up and be forced to start from the beginning.

I completed the game story first time without any need for levelling up.

I kicked myself when I saved it just before a mission I clearly didn't have time to do Ended up buying a memory card so that I could have 2 savegames on the go.

The level of suspense was a bit lower, but I still enjoyed it loads

            1) Don't save mid-mission
            2) Don't try and do all side missions, look at your time left and judge for yourself. It's easiest to do side missions when you've completed a Main Story mission and have a fair bit of time until the next one.
            3) Don't only do Main Story Missions, you need the level points that you get from missions.
            4) Most people restart at least once during the game - this is not as bad a it sounds, you keep the levels that you have earned, so you breeze back to where you were.
            5) Persevere. Everyone finds it hard for the longest time at first, but it does click.
