PS3 Wiped Saves

I bought a Pal 60GB PS3 two weeks ago. I've been playing Motorstorm quite a bit, and Ridge Racer 7. I'd unlocked quite a lot in both games.

Yesterday... the machine did an 'update' ... Today.. I load Motorstorm, and all my saved data has gone, so I check RR7, and that's wiped too.


Is this common with the PS3? ... Was it the update, or maybe my machine is faulty?

I've not seen that happen. Have you set up multiple users on the machine? I've fairly often started a game under a different user only to find that my save game wasn't there, which is remedied by logging in as the original user and re-starting the game.

Yeah, I've not seen anything like that. All of my saves for all of my games have survived multiple updates. I do everything through my main US profile though, so it might be worth trying what James has suggested?

Are you sure your user profile is loaded?

I've been stupid in the past and signed in with my USA account yet my save games are on the UK account. DOH.

It was my mistake. A friend of mine had created a profile, and I chose his at the start-up. Doh!
