    Playing NTSC PS1 games on a Messiah2 PS2?

A question to those with Messiah 2 modded PAL PS2's.

I have an original American Playstation 1 game, but it dosent seem to play. If i insert the game and tap reset it goes to the browser screen (showing my memory card and a purple/blue PS2 disc icon), if i hold the reset button down with the game in it goes to the music playing tool (showing song 2 - 20 or something), and from there to the browser it shows my memory card and an audio CD as being inserted.

So whats up? A dodgy disc, though i trust that it is good. Or a dodgy chip?

Any suggestions or observations of what happens to your PS1 games appreciated.

    To play PSone/DVD's you:

You have to press and hold 'power/reset' button until its on standby. Then press and hold 'power/reset' until the blue light on the open button comes on, then let go of the 'power/reset' button.

It will stay in PSone/DVD mode until you switch off the PS2 console via the switch at the back of the machine.

      some instructions for you

Booting PS2 Originals (CD or DVD, DVD9 All regions)

Switch on the PS2 to STANDBY (redlight) and press EJECT to open the disk tray
Insert the game into the disk tray and press EJECT or RESET to close the tray and boot the game
Booting PS2 backups (CD or DVD, DVD9 All regions)
Switch on the PS2 to STANDBY (redlight) and press EJECT to open the disk tray
Insert the game into the disk tray and press EJECT or RESET to close the tray and boot the game

Booting PS1 Games (CD or CD-R All regions)

Assuming the PS1 disk to be in the tray, put the PS2 into STANDBY more (red light)
Hold RESET (until the blue EJECT light comes on) then release reset

      Displaying local region DVD movies

Insert the DVD movie into the disk tray and put the PS2 in STBANBY (red light)
Hold RESET (until the blue light comes on) then release reset.
If the Browser appears, select the gold disk and press X to complete the movie load.
Alternatively hold RESET for 5 seconds to turn the Messiah 2 off.

Playing out of region DVD Movies (Needs AR2 v2 or GS2 v2 or Region X)

Insert the AR2 v2, GS2 v2 or DVDRX into the disk tray and close the tray
Hold RESET (until the blue eject light comes on) and then release to boot AR2/GS2/DVDRX
Alternatively hold RESET for 5 seconds to turn the Messiah 2 off
At the menu, select DVD MOVIE PLAYER and press X on the controller
The disk tray will eject; remove AR2/GS2/DVDRX and put the out-of-region movie into the tray
Press EJECT to colose the tray and wait for a few seconds
When/if the browser appearrs, select the gold disk and press X to complete the boot

      Disabling the Messiah 2 (e.g. PS1 anti-mod protected game)

Insert the relevant game into the disk tray and put the PS2 to STANBY (red light)
Hold RESET for 5 seconds beyond the moment when the blue eject light comes on
The game will then boot according to standard PS2 rules for the region concerned
The Messiah 2 is disabled until it has been put back to STANBY and booted normally.

I find that if I just double tap the Reset/Power button it will change the messiah to ps1/dvd mode. Easy!!! This is what i do with my messiah.

I dont have to do any of the stuff that Wod and Geektanic weezmacht explained!

Thats because you have a Messiah1 - their instructions are for Messiah2.

          (Messiah1 has 2 modes, single tap = PS2 - double tap = PS1 and DVD)

I thought the method to switch modes on the chip was the same, ah well.

The Messiah2 method seems overly complicated compared to the first messiah.

Cheers guys, that worked a treat.

I guess between my random body spasms and lack of instructions with the modchip i never quite got the timing right... Must import more classic PS1 games, must import...
