    Recording Videogame footage

on the pc side i have been playing with Fraps but can not see a way to do it on the console

Way I did some of my DC recordings for example was using a AV out lead, feeding that into my DVD recorder and recording straight on to DVD (DVD Recorder was connected to TV so I could see what I was playing ) then rip it to the PC as a .avi and edit as required - long winded but worked a treat.

Or couldn't you use some footage from one of the many replay sites on the internet? (with their permission of course)

The biggest issue is recording PAL60 signals. Hardly any capture cards/drivers support it. Its a massive headache.
I believe Pioneer DVD recorders can accept and record PAL60 signals.

A PAL PS3 will spit out PAL50 if you use standard def and that comes with its own problems in the form of judder.

Its a seriously sad state of affairs when it comes to recording anything from a PAL console.

I go low-tech - digital camera and tripod. The results aren't great but they're okay.

(That's using a Pentax Optio S7 on 320x240 movie mode by the way)

I think the cheapest way to do this properly is the Matrox RTX2 card and Premier CS3. You can capture in component video at 720p which is great if you want to use it for HD work.

I have used a Sony PC100E DV camera and a Hauppauge pvr-250 card to capture footage both using s-vid in so SD only but suitable for your requirements.
You can pick up a PVR card for peanuts on ebay but make sure it has the hardware encoder (250/350/500/USB2etc)

              DScaler - free
              PC TV Card ?20

This is the best solution for any console that supports composite, S-Video or RF.

DScaler will also deinterlace the signal and is the only way to play any videogame in progressive.

Edit: the image below is one i captured of an NTSC PS2 signal using the above setup. DScaler can record videos of that image quality.
