    Wii kills my router!

Got a strange one here that maybe somebody can help me with.

My router is a Speedtouch 780 that came with my Be broadband service and for the last week has been suffering from constant disconnects. I have checked my stats and they seem ok but today when trying to use the Wii's online functions I kept on getting error messages. It passes the internet connection test and I can use the Internet browser on the Wii for a short time but then it fails and I get the error message.

When i checked the router it had disconnected and needed a reboot to sort itself out. I lost total internet connections

This sometimes happens with my 360. Weirdly if I play PGR4 it kills my internets every time.

Am I missing something really obvious? Is it a faulty router as this has only happened recently and worked fine with all my wireless devices.

Many thanks if you can help me as you may save whatever sanity I have left

Set it to B/G. If you have it on G only, Wii will crap out. I have the same set up as you. Also, change you channel to 1, instead of automatic. For quicker downloads disable Web Browsing Interception too.

It was set to B/G and I have changed the channel to 1 but where is the Web Browsing Interception on the router setup? I can't see the thing anywhere.

Speed Touch > Configuration, then click 'configure' top right.
Changing from 'G' to 'B' or 'B/G' was enough to sort my Wii out. I hadn't had it switched on since changing to BE* and every few seconds it would lose connection trying to update. It's perfectly fine now though.

Cheers for that. Will give it a go and see if it improves my wireless connection.

Strange thing is that it has worked perfectly well before and I haven't changed anything myself.

Worked a treat and my Wii now goes online and doesn't seem (yet!) to kill my router.

Any ideas why the Wii would cause the router to freeze though?

No idea. Like me, is yours a new subscription to Be*? It might just be the firmware on the router, it does seem a little buggy. I'm pretty sure Wii dosent do/like wireless G stuff at the best of times. Maybe the DS too?

Been on Be for about three months now. Hopefully if they upgrade the firware it may sort out the problem or I may have to buy a new router to replace the Speedtouch one.

I'm pretty sure when my Wii was trying to update it kept freezing the router, manual restart was the only thing that'd work. It was definitely down to a combination of Wii & router. I've not had a problem since changing to the settings in my earlier post.
One final thing, make sure your router is well ventilated. 780 has a tendency to get very hot causing it to freeze up. I have mine standing up, upside down works too!

Finger's crossed it seems ok now since changing those settings and a couple I found on the Be forum.

Will have to ventilate the router though as it does get really hot.

                    Thanks for the help

The DS only doesn't do wireless G, so there is a good chance the Wii is the same
